Microsoft released its first proper operating system, Windows 95, on August 24, 1995.
My mom had me the following morning, August 25. So when I say I was 'born to be online'... I kind of mean it. Literally.
Following that narrative, I've been a storyteller, copywriter, and web content manager since I was around 9 years old when my dad faxed a signed permission slip to the Neopets.com HQ waiving my COPPA rights, thus allowing me to access the more 'customizable' features of the online virtual world.
This includes designing and coding my personalized user profile and even individual web pages for my Neopets, who were, for all intents and purposes, original characters with their own backstories and continuing lore.
Yeah, it's cringe. I am cringe. But I am free. :)
Fast forward about ten years, and I am still a digital native… but with an advanced degree in policy communication and over five years of digital content strategy experience in the public and nonprofit sectors.
I’m originally from New Mexico, and my background is shaped by growing up in an underserved area with limited economic opportunities. My upbringing instilled in me a deep understanding of rural opportunity barriers and motivated me to pursue a career in social impact work.
After moving to Washington, D.C., I interned and later worked full-time for Senator Martin Heinrich, creating digital communication strategies to amplify his Senate duties, particularly in economic empowerment and conservation legislation.
Following my tenure in the Senate, I joined a public relations agency working with organizations dedicated to economic justice, such as Accion Opportunity Fund and The James Irvine Foundation. I also collaborated on significant projects like the SOAR Fund and the Equitable Enterprise Initiative. I then moved on to serve as the first in-house digital strategist for the World Trade Center Institute, where I earned measurable success, including an 80% increase in website traffic and significant growth in online engagement for key stakeholders.
My journey serving society continues, and I am passionate about leveraging my skills and experiences to make the world at least a little bit better of a place for somebod(ies) out there. I currently split my time living between Washington, D.C. and southern New Mexico with my absolute best guy and travel companion — my red Boston Terrier, Dante.
